Sri Lanka (formerly known as Ceylon) is a tropical island lying about 31 kilometres (19 mi) off the southern tip of India and near the Equator.
The pear shaped island of Sri Lanka is full of surprises with its mix of culture, religion, people, cuisines, wildlife, landscapes and its tropical climate.
Rising from the sea cost to the Piduruthalagala mountain peak at over 2500 meters it is just not naturally beautiful, there are ancient cities and shrines to explore, granite-carved fortresses and delicious foods to savour.
