Chile: Chile is a long narrow country on the southern half of the west coast of South America. It measures approximately 4300 Kilometres in length but just averages to about 177 kilometres in width with a maximum width of 356 kilometres at the widest point. It starts at about 17˚S (about 625 km north of the Tropic of Capricorn) and ends at 56˚S (close to the Antarctic Circle), giving it a diverse climate from the driest desert in the world to ice fields. Being such a long country one is well advised to pay proper thought to your holiday plan.
With the capital and main airport Santiago as the starting point you can plan a southern or northern holiday rather than trying to finish off both specially if your holiday is short. The sunny northern holiday will give you access to beaches, rainforests, arid deserts, vineyard and orchards, the Marble Caves of Patagonia and the Easter Islands. The more cooler south comprises of the lake district, glaciers, mountains and steppe.
