Jammu & Kashmir state is the northwestern region of India, it is located in western Himalayan mountain ranges. Jammu & Kashmir, denotes three different regions with three different cultures and landscapes Jammu, Kashmir Valley, and the Ladakh regions. Jammu's numerous shrines attract tens of thousands of Hindu pilgrims every year. Kashmir is know as “The Heaven on Earth” because of its natural beauty and scenic mountainous landscape and it is situated at an altitude of 1590 mtrs. Ladakh is nick named as "Little Tibet", is know for its mountainous beauty and Buddhist culture.
The climate of Jammu and Kashmir varies greatly owing to its rugged topography.
Jammu and Kashmir's has a diverse biogeography because of wide range of elevations. The valleys have breath-taking lakes, fresh water streams, luscious fruits, magnificent forests, mighty mountains and lush meadows. At the highest elevations peak, there is no vegetation, simply rock and ice and still the scenic beauty is breath taking. Jammu and Kashmir have several Himalayan glaciers.
Jammu and Kashmir is the largest producer of apples, barley, cherries, peaches, pears and saffron in India. Within Jammu Kashmir the only way of transport in by roads, there are buses operated by J&K SRTC to most points around the state and they offer package tour of the state to almost all the tourist sites. Besides buses there are private jeeps also available for transportation with in the city.
