Amdavad formerly Ahmedabad, it is the major and largest city of the state of Gujarat, India. It is the fifth largest city and seventh largest metropolitan area of India. Amdavad is located on the banks of the River Sabarmati. Amdavad is the fastest-growing city in India, and listed it as third fastest-growing in the world. Amdavad was at the forefront of the Indian independence movement.
Amdavad is the hub of textile industries in India, which earned it the nickname Manchester of the East. It is currently India's top producer of cotton garments, cotton products as many cotton manufacturing units are presently operating in and around Amdavad. Textiles industry is one of the major industries of the city. From India it is the largest supplier of denim and one of the largest exporters of gemstones and jewellry to rest of the world.
